Since June 2024, SLS has offered American Sign Language (ASL) classes for the community.
Our 8-week courses provide a comprehensive learning experience, meeting once a week for 90 minutes.
Whether you prefer virtual or in-person learning, we've got you covered.

ASL Class FAQs

  • No prior experience is necessary. Our current classes cater to beginners and individuals with varying levels of proficiency in ASL.

    We recommend starting with Level 1 to ensure you are on par with your classmates. However ,if you feel you may qualify to jump into level 2, please reach out to Kayla Geide. We would like to have you meet with our Level 2 teacher first.

  • All necessary materials for curriculum will be provided by the instructor and SLS.

    If you are taking our virtual classes you will need to have a webcam to participate.

    Participants may benefit from having a notebook and pen for taking notes during class.

  • Classes will be conducted via Zoom. Detailed instructions for accessing and using Zoom will be provided prior to the start of the class.

    Please ensure you have a working webcam to participate in class.

  • In-Person classes will be located at Sign Language Studios in Smyrna, TN.
    This provides an opportunity for participants to engage in face-to-face learning in a dedicated environment. Please note that class availability may vary, and enrollment is limited.

  • Yes, participants must be aged 16 and above to enroll in the class. We welcome learners of all ages who meet this requirement to join us in exploring the beauty of American Sign Language.

  • We hope to continue to host classes! Keep an eye out for future dates soon! :)

  • Yes, to ensure an optimal learning experience, our class sizes are limited to 15 participants each. Early registration is recommended to secure your spot. Additionally, if the class reaches capacity, we encourage interested individuals to consider enrolling in future sessions. We plan to offer additional classes in the Spring and Summer to accommodate more learners.
