Deliberate Practice for Performance Prep

Workshop Description:
Many of us go into our first interpreter exam not knowing what to expect or how to prepare. When it comes to performance exams, deliberate practice is the key! This workshop will guide participants on different ways to incorporate deliberate practice into their interpreting and to determine which is appropriate to apply to their own daily work. Participants will be able to analyze their own interpreting work to identify areas of improvement and begin the process of deliberately improving their own interpreting skills. After all, we are a practice profession. So let’s practice deliberately together!

Educational Objectives:

• Participants will analyze their own interpreting product to identify areas of improvement.

• Participants will critique ways to perform deliberate practice and determine which one is right for them.

Presenter Bio:
Rebekah has worked as a Sign Language Interpreter for seventeen years with experience in K-12, post-secondary, community, and relay interpreting. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia in Religious Studies and Anthropology as well as Career Studies Certificates in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, and American Sign Language. She is currently employed as an interpreter by Virginia Beach City Public Schools and Sorenson Communications.
