Workshop Description:
This interactive workshop explores the seven key principles of the Code of Professional Conduct while providing participants with practical tools to strengthen ethical decision-making and critical thinking skills. Participants will dive into the Demands-Control Schema (DC-S) Analysis, engage in case studies, and work through complex real-world scenarios. Throughout the workshop, participants will examine how the Code of Professional Conduct applies before, during, and after assignments through practical examples, gain an in-depth understanding of DC-S analysis, practice applying concepts through case studies, and analyze challenging scenarios using guided worksheets and discussion. This workshop is designed to provide interpreters with hands-on strategies they can immediately apply in their professional practice.
Educational Objectives:
1. Categorizing the Code of Professional Conduct for pre-assignments, during assignments, and post-assignments with examples
2. In-depth explanation of Demands Controls Schema Analysis with examples
3. Practical execution of Case Studies with examples
4. Analyzing complex Scenarios (worksheets)
Presenter Bio:
With over a decade of experience teaching American Sign Language (ASL) and interpreting, Kristeena is a dedicated ASL Specialist committed to advancing the skills of both aspiring and working interpreters. For the past four years, she has specialized in preparing interpreters for the EIPA and RID certification exams, providing targeted instruction and mentorship.
Kristeena holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from CSU San Marcos and two Master’s degrees in Interpreting Teaching and Interpreting Studies from Western Oregon University. Her expertise spans language development, ethical decision-making, and certification preparation, equipping interpreters with the tools they need to succeed in the field.
Based in Los Angeles, Kristeena enjoys life with her husband and their beloved poodle-chihuahua mix, Frida. Outside of her professional work, she nurtures a thriving collection of plants, indulges in books and thrift store finds, and embraces the outdoors through camping adventures.
